Random Ramblings with a video

Not much to post about today. Just a few thoughts I've had that I'd like to get out, I guess.

  • Tomorrow I will be 28 years old. And I'm actually excited about this.
  • I have officially submitted my first article of the year to my editor. About cupcakes. Sweet.
  • Last night I couldn't sleep because all I wanted to do was stare at Lainey. She is growing way too quickly and sometimes I feel like there just isn't enough time in the day to spend with her.
  • If I was extremely wealthy, like a billionaire, I would probably have 5 kids. No joke.
  • I told Bobby I have two ideas for books. But I'm pretty sure most of America couldn't handle the level of sarcasm they would be written with. Except for maybe the Chelsea Handler crowd.
  • The thought of taking Lainey to Costa Rica is starting to freak me out. But I'm still uber excited.
  • I big pink puffy heart Rob Lowe. He's so dreamy.
  • Today Lainey is having a playdate with two cute little boys. Already.
  • I miss my sister. Lainey was sick, then my nephew was sick. Makes it hard for us to get together.
  • I'm still convinced Lainey looks like me.

Lainey this morning. I had to use this picture because it was so cute! She is giggling like crazy!

This is Lainey getting up and ready for the day. Cutie Pie!!

Who says chop sticks are for sushi?

Staying home this weekend paid off! I was so very sad to miss the get together my college girls were having but I'm battling on heck of a kidney stone on top of my morning sickness. Which, have I mentioned the term "morning sickness" is about as big of a lie as "spring" and "fall" are in the great state of Texas. Needless to say, I was head-in-the-trash-can-kinda-sick all weekend! Luckily, things are looking up today.

I have two interviews for a couple of articles I'm writing today so I'm glad to finally be working again! I hate when I have slumps and would prefer to work constantly. I am also in the process of taking over the editor job of the newsletter for my chapter of Junior League. While I'm thrilled to pieces, there is so much work that goes into transferring the job that it's become a pain the size of...well...a kidney stone. :)

Last weekend we out to celebrate my sister's 30th birthday! They had sushi, her fave, I had chicken from the hibachi (gross), and dear nephew had McDonald's. We go to this restaurant so often that the owners let my sister bring in food for her boys. Isn't that sweet? Well, my oldest nephew didn't want to be left out of the chop stick gang.

Poor quality, thank, iPhone. I need to get in a better habit of carrying one of my three cameras around before my little flicker gets here in October!

He kept saying, "Aunt Sissy, want a nugget?" Haha, yes, they call me Sissy. And I answer.

Happy Monday, friends!

Ok, Ashton, come out! This CANNOT be real life!

Do you ever feel like things get so crazy or people act so insanely annoying that you have to ask yourself, "OK, is this real life? Or am I being punked?" The last few days have been so crazy I literally feel like Ashton is going to jump out at me any minute!

One thing I can say is that I found a newfound appreciation for my degree and I truly believe that everyone should have a PR representative. Even if you think you don't need one, you are probably the one that needs representation the most.

We've been working on this tab (special section of the newspaper) for local homebuilders and they are in desperate need of some major PR! I understand smaller companies can't hire major agencies to take care of all of their marketing and press but they can definitely hire a freelancer or a small company or even a part-time, as needed rep. Because take it from me, my husband is an engineer, and they just don't think along the creative lines. I actually have a builder who brought in 4 other people to help him! Four! Another builder, a sales guy from the golf course and a Remax agent...these people had me running in circles. I was so frustrated yesterday, I took a two hour lunch (shhh!). Not one of these people had good input and had NO idea what they wanted to do -- ok I lie, the golf course had  their marketing director give me stuff on the course itself but NOTHING ELSE.

Ok, I know this is probably nothing but nonsense to you ladies, but I'm just trying to air my frustrations -- It's a difficult thing to write clearly when my heart is beating so fast I swear it's skipping beats!

Maybe I should start my own small-scale PR group...Anyone want to hire me?

I  know I still haven't put up pics from the boat trip this weekend and I need to. I've just been glued to the computer at work and haven't felt like getting on at home...Soon though because I've got some cute ones!

Curbow's Out!

I did it. I skipped workout class to drink! It was a blast! I went with my sister and one of her best friends and we had a great time chatting and catching up. And guess what I forgot...MY CAMERA! As usual!

Well, it other and BIG news. Bobby and I decided to back out of our house. We are supposed to schedule in 16 days and they won't give us a completion date on the house. They are pushing our closing date which will cost us a lot of money that we don't want to spend. Also, I've been really, really stressed about this decision. Yeah, I was excited because the house was bad a** but I pretty much made the decision on my own and I really wasn't ok with that. Bobby doesn't want the house because it's really expensive and I would have to work. He wants me to stay home or work in Houston where I will be closer to home and have more flexibility. (on that subject -- I'm at a loss as to what to do!)

I've only been here for 6 weeks so I don't feel like it's appropriate to leave but would love to find something in Houston, closer to home, with more  flexibility and WAY more money. Seriously, I get paid pennies.

Tips, words of advice, encouragement...all happily accepted.

Tonight is back in the swing of things. We thought Zumba was tonight but it's Friday so it looks like running and weights. Unless we do Core Cross Training...I have NO idea what that is though and I think it's the scary blonde German lady...who I will definitely dedicate a post to soon!

It's a little weird...

Hey guys! Guess what? I accepted another internship. I now have two unpaid jobs! But, ya know what? I love it! I'm doing exactly what I've always wanted and I'm hoping that someday it'll make me the big bucks. I have this bad feeling though. I'm usually a very confindent person, but lately at work, I've been feeling not so much. I think I want so badly to be good at what I do, that I'm trying too hard. Do you ever feel like that? I haven't done anything really wrong and I don't think anyone can tell, but there's still this feeling. I don't know how to explain.

Anyway, I finally joined another gym the other day. I'm so excited. Tomorrow I start bootcamp. Yeah, I'm nervous just at the sound of that! But trust me, my body needs it! You saw the Hawaii photos! AGH!

Tonight I was working on the computer, as my second internship lets me work completely from home, and Macee was knocked out on the desk. She sleeps in the strangest places. Well, I decided to take a little break and when I looked at her, she was asleep....with her eyes slightly open. WEIRD! Not gonna lie, it kinda freaked me out! She's growing so much and getting so big! She's learning how to growl and bark and it's hilarious. I took a video to post but can't get it upload of her crying. I swear it sounds like she saying, "Want mama!" Love it!

XOXO,
Stevy

Opportunity Knocks!

Hello Ladies! Ok, here are the photos I promised! Since we are having an impossible time getting our internet hooked up and an even more impossible time "borrowing" internet from our neighbor's wireless, I've decided that I'll just post a picture or two each time I blog. It saves me the 25 minute upload time. The first is a picture of me sitting over the beach on a very large lava-rock. It was gorgeous. The second photo I actually took at this park when we drove the island. (by the way, I have NO idea why this is underlined...)

This turned out to be a really great week for me. As you all know, I'm now interning at Modern Luxury's Houston magazine. It's a really great publication and you should check out the website to see if there is a publication in your town. They mostly produce magazines in larger towns. Anyway, Thursday I went to a pre-party for a Monique Lhuillier trunk show. The store is this absolutely gorgeous little dress boutique called Casa de Novia Bridal Couture. While I was there I ran into the lady in charge of advertising and marketing and who is also publisher for the Houston bridal magazine. You would all love her, she's hilarious and so much fun! She asked if I wanted to tag along to another party at the Audi dealership -- and of coarse I did! The party was a blast! She's one of those people who loves to introduce people so it was great hanging out with her. She's a "connector", like Jill from RHNYC.  HAHA! I absolutely loved her. She introduced me to tons of people, including the editor-in-chief and publisher of our magazines who I had yet to meet. It was all-in-all a really great night for me. I'm really trying to be as involved and aggressive as I can and hope that one day this can turn into a career.

By the way, whoever you are from Crystal Springs -- you should totally comment! I drive through your town twice a week!

XOXO,

Two Weeks Notice...

Ok, yeah. So, um....I chickened out. I'm such a wimp! Seriously.

So, if I really want to quit, I have to give my notice on Monday. No choice.

The Light at the End!

I'm back! This has been a really really rough couple of weeks. After talking to the Hubs, we've decided that I am going to quit my job. It's become way more than I agreed to, I work for an impossible woman and I've become so stressed and unhappy that I don't even recognize myself. I've started gaining weight and just not caring, I hardly talk to my friends or family anymore and literally, all I want to do is sleep.

So, tomorrow (yes, I have to work tomorrow) I will be putting in my two weeks notice. To me, the money is just not worth what I've been going through. I've worked enough so that I can help pay off our debts and take a nice little winter vaca after Christmas. I think I'm going to take some time and try to get a part-time job at a newspaper or something. We'll see...I just seriously don't think I can handle anymore.

Thanksgiving didn't even go so great. We had to work on Wednesday and are supposed to be at work now. I really wanted to spend some time with the Hubs family since we don't get to see family too often. The worst part is that the big big boss is letting my husband, the freaking engineer, have the weekend off! Why do we have to back then, you ask. Because my boss cannot function without me.

On another note, I really suck at quitting. The last job wasn't so hard to quit (even though I loved my boss) because my husband was moving out of the state. Like I would really stay behind. But this job, how do I tell someone I'm quitting because I don't like working for them? It's almost more the person than the job that stresses me out! Don't get me wrong, the job is AWFUL! But, my boss is one of those people who is always stressed out. Even when things are going well, she will go in search of something to stress over.

Let me tell you a little story. She calls me in her office one day to ask me how to put a formula into Excel. What she wants to do is extremely easy so I tell her how to do it. Her response? "No, that's not how you do it." My response, "Ok, Boss. Then I don't know how to help you." So about 20 minutes later she pops into my office and says, "I figured it out!" And then proceeds to tell me exactly what I told her to do. I was furious. So now when she asks for help, my immediate response is, "You know, Boss, I'm not sure how to do that."

Then, in the middle of all of this stress, she calls the corporate project people to tell them she can't handle anymore and if she doesn't get help and a raise she's quitting (or, "dragging up" as they say out here). Did she mention anything about me needing help or a raise? Nope. She sure didn't. I'm sorry, but when you are a manager, you need to take care of the people (or in this case PERSON) who work under you. It makes me so mad because she hired someone to answer phones an thinks that will give me back 4 hours in my day. I'm so busy trying to keep my head above water that there are things I just can't get done, she wants the girl to help me with those things. Not the things that keep me there until eight o'clock at night. So, she definitely left me out to dry. Working a job I fell into, for a lesser rate than is normally paid, from 7 am 'til 7 pm most days of the week. I don't think so. Needless to say, I'm DONE!

So, be prepared for a happier girl to reappear in just a few weeks!

Hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving!

XOXO,
